As far as I'm concerned, this is Joel's most intense and and passionate ballad song. The chorus is hauntingly meaningful in its few words. The chords almost change completely as far as formation goes when translating to guitar, and it was a trip to be able to sing the same vocal melody over chords that didn't sound as full as they did on piano. Certainly not the easiest thing in the world to try and pick up. Took me a few takes as well to "nail" (as much as possible) the final chorus vocally, which Joel seems to do without a struggle in his recording.
Alec Bowman perfectly captures the dark soil under the pastoral world of British folk with this collection of melancholy originals. Bandcamp New & Notable May 12, 2020
