lyrics

I want our home to be my car
So when we have to travel far
We get used to the bumps and the cracks
That align the roads

I want my car to be our home
If it breaks down, well we won’t know
‘Cause what you make me feel
Can move it on its own

I loved the way you looked at me
While I laughed uncontrollably
I rejected your small soft plea
To pay me for my gasoline

I am a model T, I run on fuel you give to me

I want your face to be my dash
The brightness scale remains unmatched
When the speedometer gives out
I just assume you’re still okay

I want my dash to be your face
The very complicated place
But one I will always
Enjoy

I loved the way you spoke to me
While my hands tapped the leather sheath
Upon the steering wheel beneath
My fingers not recognizing the speed

I am a model T, I run on fuel you give to me
And when the gas gauge reaches “E”
You kiss my lips and restart me

I had so many words that I wanted to say to you on that long drive crossing the border
between these two Midwestern states. Sometimes we’d pause and watch the cars
drive past us, stable as we shook up and down from the shotty mechanics of the place we were in.
I wish I could’ve had the chance to ask you to come out with me sometime, explore the world,
the culture of the best city America has to offer. I wanted to say so much. But I didn’t. Because I couldn’t.
Because to this day, no matter where I am in life, and how old I am, i remain afraid to express my emotions properly
to those about whom I care deeply. This song is for you. This song is for us. I tried not to make it too obvious
But if you’ve made it to this part, you know just as well as I have that I already failed.
